In 1957 a young woman had the title of “secretary”.  She also had a passion that was beyond any secretarial role and a professional opportunity presented itself when she met a doctor.   He didn’t want an established scientist or even an undergraduate to assist him in his field of study. 

He wanted someone whose thinking was not compromised by too much academic prejudice or preconceived beliefs .   And with his abilities he sourced the funding to allow her to do what he was believed was possible from her. 

She is now a world-renowned leading scientist although her preference is for the title of naturalist and to this day she still regards that doctor as her mentor, a true giant of a man, in brilliance, vision and stature.

I will remain steadfast in my belief that my time, my energy, my skills and capabilities are worthy of this value and that others can see the value in having me on their team even if it is just for a day.
